Retaining Walls
Sunshine Coast

Strong, Secure & Stylish Retaining Wall

A retaining wall has one job: hold back ground that wants to move. Get the drainage, footings or reinforcement wrong and it will fail usually slowly, and usually after the landscaping is finished.

At Coastwide Brick & Blocklaying, we build block retaining walls across the Sunshine Coast that are engineered to handle local soil and rainfall conditions. With over 25 years of hands-on experience, we work with homeowners, builders and developers who want the job done properly the first time.

Block Retaining Walls Built For Sunshine Coast Conditions

The Sunshine Coast throws a lot at a retaining wall. Heavy summer downpours, reactive clay soils through the hinterland, sandy ground closer to the coast, and sloping blocks that put constant lateral pressure on the structure.

We build to suit the site, not to a one-size-fits-all spec. That means:

Retaining Wall Services We Offer

Residential Retaining Walls

Terracing sloped backyards, levelling areas for pools, sheds or entertaining spaces, and creating usable flat ground on difficult blocks.

Structural Retaining Walls

Engineered blockwork for new builds, driveways and boundary retention where the wall is carrying real load. Built to engineer specification and ready for inspection.

Boundary Retaining Walls

Shared boundary walls between properties, built to the required height and finish with clear communication throughout including with the neighbours where it's needed.

Retaining Wall Repairs

Cracked, bulging or leaning walls assessed and repaired. Often the underlying issue is drainage rather than the blockwork itself, and we'll tell you straight if that's what we find.

Frequently Asked Questions

In most Sunshine Coast council areas, walls under one metre that aren't surcharged or on a boundary generally don't require approval, but this varies by site and zoning. Anything above that height, or supporting a load such as a driveway, will usually need engineering and approval. We'll flag it during the site visit if we think approval is needed.

A standard residential wall is usually a few days to a week depending on length, height and site access. We'll give you a realistic timeframe with the quote.

For walls that require certification, we work alongside engineers and build to their specification. We'll let you know upfront if your wall falls into that category.

Built correctly, with proper footings, reinforcement and drainage, a block retaining wall should last the life of the property. Most failures come down to drainage that was skipped or under-specified.

Yes. We assess the wall, identify what's causing the movement and advise whether it can be repaired or needs rebuilding.
